We have always had electric heaters, as our power is cheap here with all the water and coal plants. Efficiency is good and no heat goes up a vent. If you wire atleast 40-50 amp service to the heater and wire it so both heating elements come on at the same time,(all it takes is switching one wire on the top thermostat) recovery is on par with a gas heater. We have a lot of mineral in our water, but have very little element burn out trouble since switching to double density elements ( the long ones that fold back on themselves). It would be even better if I was not so lax about draining the heater tank once in a while.
