Are you on REA power?

Check for programs with your electric company.

My REA power company has a program, not sure of the costs today, but a decade ago I got an 80 gallon electric Marathon fiberglass water heater installed for $120 my cost. The only catch was they put a control on it so they could turn it off during peak power demands. I've _never_ noticed an issue with the control, my understanding is it is rarely used. The large size of the water heater allows a lot of use even if the power is off for a few hours.

Back then that type of weater heater was top of the line, cost over $900 plus instalation.....

No-brainer.
