Where are you at in wc-in? I'm about 4-5 miles nw of the Beef House.

We run approx a 65 / 35 corn -bean rotation so have quite a bit of 2nd yr corn & some continious corn. Vor us the "blacker the better" as you need to get rid of as much residue possible to keep from tying up nitrogen. Moleboard would probably be best but we don't have a big plow & haven't been able to find a decent one. Last fall we ran a CIH 330 TT over the stalks followed by a Dominator, and then fall applied AA. This spring we ran either a soil finisher or the 330 over the stalks, followed by 30# of N via 28% & degree xtra then worked that in with the 330 & planted. On a couple fields we put down about 50# of N via ESN mixed in with our dry fert.

So far our COC looks really good & we didn't see any yellowing this spring in the corn from nitrogen tie-up. We really like to side dress about 50# of N but we switched to 20" corn 3 years ago so haven't been able to do that. That'sone of the main reasons we are witching back to 30" corn for 2012.

Contrary to what most people claim, we have seen our best corn yields in COC the last several years and our best yields normally come from a field that has been corn since 2005.
