Disk Ripper has, and still continues to do the job beautifully for us, 12-16" deep, shanks always on the "shallow" setting so the blades go as deep as they can. Spring we apply 100lbs of 28% over the top which helps to break stalks down. Then come back with another big shot side-dressed.

Knife rolls are a must, as well as stompers for a correct COC rotation, in my opinion. Knife rolls helps chew the stalks, stompers snap the stalks over to help with decomp.

Burning stalks is a last last resort, you do way more damage than good by burning them.
