Subject: RE: corn residue management

The easy ways to grow corn on corn

DON'T DO IT and plant soybeans every other year or every third year.
Molboard plow
Burn the residue every spring
Apply lots of N to compensate for the N tie up.  Timing is critical.
Turn cattle out on the residue after harvest.

The hard way to grow corn on corn

No-Till or Strip-Till in a northern climate

Anything is possible, but with plant breeders looking to get more yield out of corn they are breeding plants that produce very strong stalks and leaves.  The residue problem is only going to get worse.  I am sure there is somebody out there who has it figured out, but that somebody is not me.

All of the above is my opinion.

Andy
