SW Saskatchewan | The Vegreville Research station did a lot of work on Solonetzic soils in the 60's and 70's. One of their findings was that Sweet clover initially was a promising crop but had troubles growing it repeatedly because of some unknown factor.
Haven't followed up on it lately, but we have used sweet clover for a forage crop(makes a turd) and if conditions are right it can be quite productive.
Problem we have is that the Solonetzic patches are small and scattered throughout the field. IF a person had access to lots of manure at a close haul, it might offer a remediation possibility. | |
