Norm is actually our neighbour. I'm not really sure which quarters he plowed, as unfortunately, his farm wasn't the best soil in the country. One of our other direct neighbours did deep plowing as well and I can't tell any difference between their plowed and nonplowed land.

And my dad often tells me about Les Henry. Knew him pretty well I guess!

This is something I've been arguing about with my dad for a while now. We have far from perfect land, as you've said, however it has potential. We're currently swapping to a 1/3 previous year's summerfallow, 1/3 direct seed, and 1/3 current years summerfallow. If prices improve, we'll be less inclined to follow cost saving measures like this, though.

I've heard talk before that they figure that this stuff is just heavily compacted from the herds of buffalo.
