Driftless SW Wisconsin | Pat, 2 Curvetine closing wheels per row with the lighter spring (on jd's) and NO drag chain leaves a slot closed at the BOTTOM and pock marked at the top leaves a surface which cracks to allow weak seedlings to emerge in a crusting situation. this is especially evident in shallow planted weak seedling crops like cotton and beans. this works even when using row cleaners up front. leaving residue does reduce the crusting tendency but 2 curvetines and no drag chain also solves the problem but without the inconsistent seed depth of the gage wheels rolling over residue. jim at dawn | |
