SCIL, (South of 16)
$2900 does sound high, but last fall our neighbor hit one leg of a steel highline pole in his field with the combine auger (while it was folded in). Talked to him the other day and he said the bill was $32,000!!! (not a misprint). The lines never came down and no power was interupted. It wasn't fixed for 2 weeks or so later, but the contractor who did the repair job did put on quite a show with 6 bucket trucks, 3 crane trucks, and a tracked loader out in the field. Insurance paid for it minus deductable, but I still almost fell over when he told me the total. Needless to say they're not going to plant as close to the poles in the future.
