I was told once that a guy used an old propane tank as an air tank. He aired up some tractor tires with it, and at some later point, was welding on a cracked rim. The tire blew and it killed him.



Might have been rubber fumes.
A fellow in our race club spotted a cracked rim on his race car, minutes before he had to leave for the races.
He tried to weld the fully inflated tire / rim, not thinking any danger was involved. The rim / tire exploded and tore off half of his face.
The tire had a tube in it and the heat of welding put out flame and burning tube rubber in the oxygen rich compressed air in the tire.
