Subject: RE: pioneer vrs dekalb

I guess I should say up front that I used to sell Pioneer. The Dekalb, the last few years has really whipped the competition around here. To the point I almost didn't plant any Pioneer at all last year. When it got late I took my 115 day 32B83 back and the dealer suggested a 106 day hybred that I'd never even heard of 35K04. When I planted it I split the planter between it and 63-42 and hoped it wouldn't diapoint me too much. This fall, I thought it would be dryer so I shelled 12 and left 12 on several different fields . On our yield monitor I'm made them different regions and when I got the maps printed out the 106 day was not only 2-3 pts. dyer it was 12-18 bu. better which surprised me. I guess I don't have any firm suggestion from this (every farm is different) but keep an open mind and be prepared to be surprised once in awhile.
