NW Tennessee | Looks like we are going to be picking up about 120 acres or so of pasture to turn into row crops. Landlord is getting out of the cattle business. Most of this ground has been in pasture I guess forever, I know it has since the late `70's. He has done an excellent job with keeping it up, no weeds, good fertility, with the big majority of it fescue. Probably enough stockpiled that he won't even have to feed any hay till maybe Feb. Cattle won't be leaving until probably Feb. or first of March. Majority of the ground is HEL, so no tillage will be done. In an ideal situation, I would have sprayed it with a fall burn-down and then again in early spring, but, as I said, won't have possession until late winter/early spring. Any tips on best way to proceed with this? We have done small acreage in the past when his hay fields got a few weeds in them. We would farm them a couple of years and then they would go back into hay, but only 10-12 acres at a time. TIA | |
