Subject: RE: How long should a grain bin last?

Most of mine are from the early 70's to early 80's and aside from some rust are still in use. Dad did have a Long brand bin that buckled mid way up. It was determined that the the wrong weight sheets were supplied but it took a lawyer to get the company's attention for a remedy. The last bin I built was an MFS which was available in 3 weights. The dealer said he wouldn't sell the lightest weight and it wasn't much more for the heavy weight "drying bin" over the standard weight so that's the way I went. I'd keep after the company to determine if it's the result of a manufacturing defect. I should say the Long Company was ignoring Dad's lawyer. It was only after they threatened to include the local dealer in the pending suit that there was any action. I don't know who actually paid but the bin was fixed.
