I intentionally didn't bring up ethanol because of the government interference. Ethanol existed before the government push in the mid 2000's but mostly as an oxygenate. Government came along and decided that it was going to be good for us to have renewable fuel made from corn. Guess what happened? E plants everywhere, mass expansion of the industry.
Is the strategy not similar right now for the "green" energy?
Somewhat but the govt didn’t kill the competition for ethanol like they killed coal for wind/solar and there is no end in sight for wind/solar production tax credits. Ethanol’s production tax credits ended long ago.
