Subject: Don’t forget tech fees

Oswald No-Till Farm Cleghorn, IA
I recall $100+ Roundup. In 1983 when we didn’t grow corn due to PIC I wished I used it on the weeds after knocking down cover oats. Did in one area with fantastic control while 2-4,d only killed hemp dogbane but grass pressure might have justified more RUP but though too expensive.

When RR tech came along (MON) RUP dropped in price as patent was due to go off but label required MON glyphosate. That eventually went away (antitrust or merger stuff?) such generics could be used. Memory doesn’t recall Chinese production.

Also you have to remember the $$$ to MON as tech fees. This is a better margin lock than fighting a generic market price structure. EG get farmers hooked on the tech with cheap drug.

So when you look at glyphosate cost as percent of crop budget you have to add in tech fees.

Around the world, glyphosate is probably the most widely used product he that in a resistant crop or not.

Winter reading:

I read it 15 or so years ago. Was recommended to me by a former MON employee
