Are you saying a machinist for Deere was making $20 in 1980? That'd be $64 an hour today.

In the 70's and early 80's Deere was the premier place to work in and around Waterloo. The guys I know that worked their and drove 40 miles each way every day all had new houses, cars, and all the toys, so yes, they were making $20/hour then. Those same guys also retired with an outstanding pension. I think the stockholders have taken precidence over the people who actually produce the products that Deere sells to make those Billions in profits. It's goung to hurt alot of people if they strike, especially this time of year, but I feel a correction in benifits to the workers are needed.Wages have not kept up with the cost of living for along time now. I know I wouldn't want to sell corn today for the prices we recieved in the 80's !!!
