I will second the sooted up exhaust on your detroit,easy check,unhook the pipe and do a run.Had one doggy truck for many years,unhooked exhaust and its an animal,sounds like it also but the old muffler kept it from any performance at all,gained 10 mph easily and 2 gears on some hills.And it was not from the noise increase.
Semi sucks on the hills!
