Like I said before, the pH scale is logarithmic, so it takes a different amount of "neutralizer" to move each place on the scale. You can't do anything based on "2 pH points".
The pH is the ratio of hydrogen to hydroxide ions, the other side of the equation is the concentration in the soil, roughly the CEC, so a heavy soil is going to need more neutralizing than a pure sand soil.

But the lime and sulfur recommendations also contradict everything I said about the scale being logarithmicaly stronger the further away from neutral. Or maybe it's just that the neutralizing is slower at neutral because of less strong reactions? or making conservative recommendations to avoid overshooting the goal? |
