Coldwater, Michigan | I answer to some of the above questions: You can get too much lime. If your mineral soil Ph goes much above 7.0 you start to tie up some of the micro nutrients. If your Muck (organic soil) goes much above 5.2 ph you start creating a micro nutrient shortage.
Some of you on here already have soils that are naturally high in the range of 8.0+. You have a problem! It can be dealt with. But to purposely over lime and get your mineral soil's pH in the 7.5 range is going to cost you money to correct for the micros you are tying up.
Some of our muck soils are underlain with Marl and you may have to deal with high pH as long as you farm that soil.
