Subject: And yet most "self-employed" don't...

Southeast WI
Figure that number in when they claim "I work for myself". That extra money it takes over your actual wage to be self-employed includes health ins, self employment tax and retirement contributions are the true costs of running a business.

Yet most need a spouse working off the farm to cover health insurance, actual retirement plan that includes matching $ from another entity, etc to make the whole thing work. My only point is don't brag you work for yourself if you need these subsidies. If both spouses are good with this system that's fine. I've just had too many brag about running their own businesses over the years but they don't cover all the true costs. Been at this 25 years. It takes a lot to do it.
