Subject: RE: very short cardiologist visit

Nevada, Iowa
I would "echo" those sentiments whole heartedly (no puns intended). Long story but what started as a mild murmur for me ended with open heart surgery. Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, basically a thickening of the heart muscle inside and out. The heart was running out of room inside to pump, in farmer terms. The surgeon had to remove tissue inside to increase capacity. No blockages or valve issues. This was discovered in the late summer and I was able to postpone surgery until December but I was told if I ever fainted, all bets were off. Later they told me that most with this condition will faint once and sometimes twice but rarely survive a third. I owe a lot to a persistent Nurse Practitioner who knew her stuff. If she had not ordered an echocardiogram, the result could have been quite different. I am sure you're fine but pay attention to any changes. I can see some changes in me now as I look back but they were so subtle and slow at the time that I couldn't see it then.
