Middle of the middle west | The base length of metric units is just an arbitrary length just like any other. They came to the length first and then found something that fit. For instance a cm is defined as the length electromagnetic ray travels in a vacuum in 3.33564095 x 10^-11 seconds. Seems pretty arbitrary to me.
One could say then an inch is the distance a ray of electromagnetic radiation travels in 8.4725...x 10^-11 seconds in a vacuum. A centimeter is .3739 of an inch.
What I do know is that with an imperial system I can use my body as a tape measure when I don't have a tape on me and it works pretty well. Can't really do that well with metric. |
