I kind of started this thought above by bringing up Buffet and Gates names.............but I used to have an FSA banker who was up in Big Ben's area early in his career who used to tell me about Campbells Soup attempting to become mega farmers and failing miserably. Never really looked into it.............but he said they made it to like 180k acres before breaking themselves in that venture.
