Central Minnesota | People would be "WINNING" if they would get their costs in line. To many big ego's out there, thinking they need to farm half the county, or 10% of the whole state, pay crazy rents, file bankruptcy, start under a new name.
Not sure about you but, i'm "winning".... I have Dec20 corn sold for over 4 futures. Probably 60% of expected crop sold for over 3.85 Dec20. Store it, roll it, pick up the carry, and better basis, and my cash will be 3.90 to 4.45 on 60% of my expected crop. And, best part is, my costs are in line, and reflect the 3.00 cash corn. Majority of 2020 crop was sold in 2019.
I must be "winning" right now, because we are delivering 4.38-4.62 cash corn right now. Various contracts. And my costs were in line last year.
It's not my fault people have an ego, and think they need to farm half the county. Maybe they need to realize they are constantly pricing themselves, and others, right out of a profit. Common sense! Although, I guess that's why half the country was shut down. Lack of common sense these days.
The minute you know you can make a couple penny's per bushel, doesn't mean you need to give a dime or quarter away. Stupid people sit and price everyone out of profits. And it doesn't just hurt the average farmer, it hurts everyone! The guy contemplating retirement, the young kid that just wants to get a start, to the guy that's been at it for 30 years.
Maybe i'm beginning to be a crotchety old man. But I have zero sympathy for someone that needs to file chapter 7 or whatever chapter they file, if they are paying high dollar rents, driving new 80k dollar trucks, and rolling machinery every year. But own less than 3% of their acreage. That's their own fault by not watching their P's and Q's, and I have zero sympathy for them.
And i'll take this "Winning" over any sort of snake oil sleepy old sniffer joe is selling! That moron doesn't even remember he was vice president for 8 years, and how messed up the country was when he was in office, and now he feels he needs to go back? or maybe it's Hillary or Michael Obama that's pushing him to go back. Who knows, but he will be in a dementia unit before his first term is up if he get's elected... That is if there's a country left. | |
