| It may be more work and not quite so convenient but back in the '70's and '80's guys around here used to do it all the time. If I hunted around, I could buy a dozen or more sows (or gilts) inside of a week and be in business.
I've got enough soybeans in the bottom of my bin to feed sows until the new crop and then I'll have all I'll need.
As slaughter facilities, I suspect that if the price of pork goes up locally, my pigs would all go local and thereby free up that much more to go international.
