South Central MN | Some groups are pushing in that direction, so might happen someday. It would make an operation be a lot sharper with the pencil and perhaps a bit more cautious when deciding what to spend the money on.
I know the current subsidy for crop insurance premiums is pretty high, what I pay for hail insurance is a lot more than what I pay for the regular (multi-peril?) insurance, although hail more likely to pay out at lower loss levels in events of wind or hail.
Anyone ever encountered crop insurance being lower for following a crop rotation or reducing risk somehow? Have not heard of that in the US but sounds like the canola growing areas of Canada might have something to that effect for crop insurance? If premium subsidies go away that would probably be one way for a company to offer insurance at a reduced rate. (Or charge a penalty instead for "risky practices".) | |
