Way I see that would be break even at best. Chopping heads are spendy, more maintenance on head and combine, greater risk of losing your residue due to wind. Residue breakdown requires biology, heat, moisture, and nitrogen. Yeah the smaller pieces give more openings for that to happen but that doesn’t do any good when it is piled up on the other side of the fence in the neighbors field or ditch.
