Subject: RE: Hours farmers work

North Arkansas
It depends on the job I've worked 36 hours straight and I've worked 30 minute days. When I was younger I worked at least 8 hour days 7 days a week and most were at least 10-12 hour days. One summer I kept up with my time, I averaged 90 hour weeks and one week was 114 hours. At that time I was trying to get everything "right". I'm glad that I worked towards getting everything right so I can take it easier now. I also tried to get the work out of my son's. This encouraged them to get a good education but it also drove them off of the farm.
Now I work fewer head of cattle by myself with a little hired help. I seldom put in over 10 hours a day and most days is less than 8. I make as much as I did when I busted my ass. I enjoy working and wish I was able to do more but you reach a point of diminishing returns.
