Subject: RE: Hours farmers work

Elizabethtown,KY
I used to feel guilty if I wasn't working every minute, but I got over that many years ago. We used to plow or chisel and work all the ground, raised tobacco, corn, wheat, beans, had 50 beef cows and fed all the calves out, had 70 sows, farrowed them twice a year and fed them all out, makes me tired to think of what we used to do. This was my dad and me and 2 hired guys back then.

Since back in the 90's I have been alone other than having a retired friend run the combine in corn while I haul and unload. I've been 100% no-till since '89 so that has lightened the work load a lot, and have larger equipment than we did back in the day. I don't do much in the winter other than load out corn, of course I'm at the age that I could retire if I chose to, but I still enjoy doing it, so I'm going to go on for a while yet.
