I started with nothing in 2008. Still have most of it :) grew up on an uncle's dairy and loved it from day one. He unfortunately passed away in 98 and everything got sold, that really fueled me to make sure I got a chance to do this.

My dad never farmed on his own and has never given me a nickel. He has gave me a ton of sweat and advice. I've been lucky so far and I'm very thankful for what I got so far. Got a great job in 05 and worked OT like a mad man. Saved every penny I could and bought a small farm in 2008 an hour from where I grew up. Bought a pos 656 diesel a junk baler, mower, and wagons. did the hay thing for awhile then switch to grain in 2010.... Good timing. Got to rent up every little piece I could find and had great weather the last few years. Still got the job, still work overtime, still up to my eyes in debt. But I'm slowly making progress. You can do it, as others said just takes a lot of sweat, level thinking, and some luck.

Nice to read all these posts, in no way do i begrudge any of the guys who walked into the family farm. A friend of mine walked into a nice size family operation and he certainly has it tougher than I do, he's earning inch of it.
