CNY
At 24, started in '65 with a new wife, a few dairy hfrs, a small personal note from an employer and a FHA loan, on a rented farm. "They" said it couldn't be done, farming had gotten too expensive. Long story short, we did it and have done well. Fast forward, two friends of my son graduated from college mid 1990's, were told it couldn't be done and did it successfully. John in Central New York has done it. With hard work and being smart with money (not just tight) I think it still can be done today.
Reading Dieseldoc's post especially leads me to remind folks not to let your pursuit of success eat into your family life or mess up your physical or mental health. If you get to the point where you have time and money but aren't able to enjoy life you may regret it.
