Kingston,Mi
I started without any equipment, just my honorable discharge, a letter from the V.A. stating that their loan policy's would no longer extend to purchasing farms and a college degree in Animal Husbandry. My first tractor was a pile of iron faintly resembling a 1946 John Deere BR. Rebuilt that tractor, bought a 2-14 IHC Little Genius plow and started to farm. Added a IHC H a year later, then a All Crop combine and an AC 15 hoe single disk drill. Rented several small farms (as in too small to be of any worth) before buying back a farm dad sold in 1959, by that time my parents finally could see that I was committed to farming and made the down payment ($17,000) and I had my eventual share of their estate. That was 35 years ago, just bought another small farm. I even managed to make it through the Carter years paying 19% interest on a John Deere 95 round back, 435 corn head and a 12 ft. grain head.

I could borrow Dad's pride and joy, an early 30's OS 12 that he used to fit the garden.
