Brad, I respect your opinons and read them a few times before this reply.
The questions you ask are valid, and I have given them much thought. I struggle with a number of acres or cows that I would be 'satisfied' with. Or a number that would provide a desired lifestyle. My best answer is that I would like to sustain a living for my family soley from production agriculture, and in my later years, I'd love to help someone get started. Along the way I enjoy helping/encouraging anyone I come in contact with.
I understand that established generational family farms are not with out their problems and challenges, and they deserve a pat on the back for keeping it together all those years. However, if I hear someone in that situation complaining, my usual response is, 'I may fight a lifetime to get where you are at today, and I may never get there, so you'd better be thankful.
I'll remember your questions for awhile. Thanks for sharing your point of view.
