Rivers, MB | I'd agree that you need to be more than a semi and tractor driver.
I suspect though that in most cases, the sons are in that position because they've never been given any chance to be management material. More often than not, its the dad's fault, not the kids fault. They may not like their "position" in the farm and so they look for every opportunity to be a goof-off and party and ride dirt bikes.
I don't think there's a shortage of farmers. Shortage of farm laborers, yes, but not farmers. Doesn't seem to be any lack of competition for land.
