Subject: RE: Clover and Solonetzic soils

Regina/ 14 miles South of Moose Jaw Saskatchewan
We're lucky where we are that we don't have solonetzic conditions - we've used clover for a number of years as an organic soil building tool - but we're trying to move away from it & are trying to use alfalfa...

Despite trying various disks (up to a big Wishek that can bury anything) - we find we don't have enough activity in the ground from July to the next spring to break down the clover...too much plant matter for our soil conditions - we got some advice that alfalfa might be better suited to our conditions south of Moose Jaw - so that's what we're trying now...

How far from Ravenscrag/Eastend are you?

Doug W.
