Subject: RE: Jersey Cows, Angus Bull?

Barry County, MI
10 or so years ago we bought some seman from Wolff's limizine and a friend bred 60 jerseys he was trans to organic and we fed milk replacer and finished the bull calves neighbors thought they were Angus very good calves We ended up with 25 heifers Id guess and bred some to Devon ai and got a Angus bull to get them bread
never any problem calving with the big jersey pelvic area
we got 6 calves out alot of the original first cross
I knew udder problems would happen but it wasn't all that bad
but as the cows aged the udders broke down and were culled
but when you start a herd with a milk finersting the calves you get calves all year long
end of story we have a herd of cows that are dosel
and are easy keepers and grow well
we are using a Charlla bull now and calves get big
I would probably not recommend it to anybody
but would do it again
its my daughter herd
we have only had 2 bloat a few years ago do to my messup
no vaccine of any kind
health is great no runny eyes
no worry for milk maybe we got 1 Devon bull we shouldn't of got but drove 500 miles and desired as the first was very good
theirs many herd far better than ours Im sure archie
