Sw. Ill | You need a regular job first before you think about farming. So finish school or find a trade. Only took me 9months to go to school for my trade. Not a huge money maker but I make enough to buy old equipment, fix it up and farm. FSA won't loan you money without assets either. And they don't like titled vehicles as collateral. So you need to hit the auctions and accumulate assets. Then get a operating loan to start farming. I took out an FSA loan to buy my tractor and combine, everything else I have bought myself. And if you think its all gonna be sitting in a nice cab with AC and playing on your phone.... Forget that right now. This harvest season I spent about 20 hours on the combine and probably 80 hours working on stuff in the 90. Degree heat, up and down ladders climbing grain bins etc.. Its work. | |
