you are making the assumption that the young aspiring farmer is making 100k profit that he needs to find a use for. If a young guy is starting out without using dad's equipment and having the wife work in town covering living expenses and health insurance and is paying competitive rents, I'm guessing that 30k credit on depreciable assets isn't applicable.
