well you don't have my feathers tousled, and I don't see where kdd indicates that in his post either, although your posts have some take or leave it indices to them.  I too have 40+ years in row crop production, we have several farms that we have farmed for 30+ years, would like to think my opinion and observations also had some merit to them.
whether or not a particular piece of land is more suitable for wildlife is a personal choice, I have myself just convinced a landowner to enroll 20 acres of his 300 acre farm in the crp, granted it wasn't the best ground, and it made more sense to turn it over to the wildlife, even though it will cost myself nearly 2k in lost revenue(custom farmed).   so i'm not anti wildlife, or anti conservation, or anti water quality,  but am most decidedly pro productivity, it's what keeps me in business.
