Johhny, I don't agree that the plow was a great idea BUT given various other tools you might have chosen, you could have easily selected something worse for advancing soil health than a plow that didn't do a great job of burying everything, In fact the job resembles what Herman used to do with his cut-off moldboards. The trick will be behaving yourself when it is time to make a seedbed in the spring. The other choices like disc rippers, discs or chisels would have presented the same springtime challenges.

You will gather soil moisture well assuming you haven't got a plowpan. Did you run on-land hitch?

Seriously take a look at a tool which would have gathered just as much water for you and left the oats on top to protect the soil and be minimal cover by planting time without further tillage. www.soilcursebuster.com Got guys doing this in central IN at Amish Country Popcorn (continuous)for several years in very heavy ground.
