Zabcikville, TX | I would agree on an animal. Go to the local sale, buy a calf (preferably a female) and say it's yours. I mean a BABY calf, one it's mother didn't want, or mother died. Have him raise it and, when old enough, put it with your (or the neighbors) bull. When he learns what he has done, growing this animal that would have died without his help, and then seeing her produce an actual commodity. Many life lessons learned in the course of 2 years. Help him, don't give it to him.
Edit: Help him with milk replacer and feed. Ask for 1/4 back on all bills. Vet bills, breeding bills, feed bills. No payment due until he sells, the heifer or the calf from it.
