the most shortsighted marketing statement I have ever read.
In 2008 You could have sold 4 years worth of crops near are above $8.00
in 2012 you could have done 4 years above $6.25
I think the thing that you and maize are missing is that I'm willing to sell 2 years in advance. Having to years worth of storage just gives you the option of holding and marketing during rallies rather than putting grain on dp or selling off the combine. I have the capacity to store 2 corn crops, but I hauled grain this year in sept to fill a contract form 2012. Would I have made more money this year being short since Aug 2012? Yes, but the point I'm making is I would have spent 4 times that much being short the years prior to that. I actually had forward sales from May 2014 that I filled this fall believe it or not. All I'm saying is sell the rallies, those rallies maybe 6mo, 1year or 2 years apart. No sense in selling 3 dollar corn off the combine. If we see any sort of spring rally this year, I will sell some. |
