You would be much happier with a 6 row but to answer your question yes a 1660 will handle an 8 row. Have a customer with 1083 on an IH powered 1660 with no issues other than 3 mph max. You will also want to add straight separator bars to your speciality rotor and/or retard your vanes and run your bottom shoe nearly wide open.
