Subject: RE: Corn Head Case IH 1660?

Good friend bought on of the first 1460s sold in this area and ran a 8x30" corn head on it. He had to run pretty slow & in wet corn had troubles pushing the grain tank cross auger out the side of the elevator. Later 14s nor the 16s didn't have the grain tank cross auger. First 1660 I bought was a yr old machine, PO had ran a 1083 on it, I put a 1063 on it when I purchased the machine He traded for another 1660 & I'm pretty sure he ran 1083 on it as well. At the time corn yields were averaging in the mid 170s but on occasion would get some 200 bpa yields. The 1660 will handle a 8 row head but you're going to be maxed out on capacity in avg corn and under capacity in higher yielding or wet corn.

4 row will be too narrow. Had a neighbor that ran a 943 on a 915. He took his ladder off & got along ok until ground got wet. Pretty sure a 1660 w 30.5s would be wider.
