NE SD | The best thing we did on "our farm" was to get out of the no-till evangelism. That is for our pocket books and and soil. Some fields it works on just fine, but we farm a lot of low, heavy, poorly drained soil. We have enough wet springs where you get to a point where you can't do anything but wait and plant beans which makes it impossible to keep a rotation. Continuous beans is not good in our high saline soils. They don't remove enough moisture, salt levels rise, etc. Even in the fields we can notill we chisel the low spots. Corn likes black dirt so we are strip tilling at minimum for that. | |
