Subject: RE: Notill success

Queensland, Australia
I will admit that I've often have wondered the same thing when people say that. Although I guess you just don't know the real story till you farm itself. We farm in a dryer climate where no-till works great. We have ground that ranges from light to heavy black soil that could produce 200 bushel corn, but our hot climate can be pretty unforgiving with corn. So no-till has really worked wonders in rebuilding soil structure, increasing soil water efficiency, cutting input costs and increasing overall productivity. I think for some people it is a matter of changing their way of thinking. Even my father use to doubt the concept of no-tilling. I think its something that you need to give time to make it work. I certainly don't think that you should gage the success of no-till off one season.
Although some have genuinely given it a go and couldn't make it work and that's fair enough. Everyone has the freedom to do what works for them.
