Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa

Certainly not to make light of your daughter's struggles, but her reaction to word problems made me think of this cartoon. I feel her pain with those....they never made a lick of sense to me either.

It's so hard to watch a child struggle and get so frustrated with trying to do the work that's assigned. "Here" we can have the Area Education Agency do what they call a 'staffing' to determine what may be going on with a child who's having issues. That may be a place to start. You're not committed to following their recommendations, but at least have a point to begin from to search out what you want to do. And maybe more importantly, what you don't want to do.

Is their a guidance counselor at her school who can refer you to the right place to begin? I'm sure you've talked with her teacher to get her viewpoint on the issues.

Good luck. It hurts to watch your child deal with such hurdles.
