where is she getting her info from that she "knows what land rent goes for"? if you look at it this way, 25 bucks is only 3 bushel of beans at current prices, benas can have a yield swing of 5-10 bushels easily with one rain, and some guys leave 3 bushels behind their combine. If it where me, and no way of talking her out of raising it, I would try to tighten up my belt a bit, maybe find some better priced seed or variable rate fertilizer and seed to cut back on excess un-needed fertilizer and seed. 

You must not have read to close. He said he wouldnt be able to put any fertilizer on and still lose 25 bucks.


I did miss that, but then again, maybe that's why he would be losing money? Put $40 of fertilizer out for probably a gain of $90 in extra beans 90-40-25= $25 profit right there.  


I would argue that skipping one year of p/k on beans wouldnt reduce yields by 90 cents let alone 90 dollars. That is assuming levels are decent to begin with.
