| 2/3rds of land is owned by people over the age of 65 those people for the most part are either done buying or buying for their childern to farm. but lets be honest not all the children will be farmers and they want their lake home out of that land. so apon death of the parents.
The biggest factitious statement in that article is the " 80% of the farmland is owned by somebody that does not intend to sell" but yet 53% of Iowa land owners have NO farming experience. That reads to me that 53% of the farmland owned by Iowa people are at least 2nd generation removed. Again these are not people who are buying more and most certainly not at cap rates that are worse than what tax free government bonds pay. | |
