Subject: Cover crop after fall tillage

Southwestern Ontario
We are looking to try a mix of radish, oats and crimson clover on wheat stubble that will be going to corn. We like the idea to build organic matter and to scavenge up and hold all the fertilizer we put down in the fall ahead of the corn.

What I’m wondering is how can our regular tillage fit into this? We always have really hard ground after wheat, and this is when we disk rip, late summer, about every 2 years in a full rotation. We are thinking of ripping and then planting this mix, but the ground would not be level enough to plant after ripping, so we would probably do one pass with the cultivator and then drill the mix in. Would the cultivator pass fully undo what we did with the ripper? (Ie. cause compaction again)

Or would we be able to spread this mix on top of the wheat stubble and then rip? Would it all seed or would that burry the seeds too deep?

Any advice is appreciated
